Student Representative Council

Student Representative Council

The Narrabri High School Student representative Council aims to develop individual students and support the School as an effective organisation in which students can grow and become contributing members of the school and community.

Its purpose is to promote student participation in decision making, providing leadership opportunities by liaising between staff, students and the community and acting as a representative voice in the school. Students are encouraged to act in the best interest of the school and frequently debate issues at meetings as this is a forum for delivering student opinions.

The SRC comprises students from all years, nominated and voted for by their peers, who then work collaboratively to gain improvements for the general school body.

The SRC operates under a Constitution and formal meetings are held with feedback given to and sought from Roll Groups on a regular basis.

At school, the SRC in conjunction with Challenge Enterprises has initiated a paper recycling program which has been embraced by staff and students alike.

The SRC have been instrumental in lobbying for improved playground seating, shelter areas and other aspects of the physical environment; made suggestions to the Canteen committee for Menu items, planned Discos and expanded uniform options.

Fundraising activities have been undertaken to focus on those in need in the Community and to support such ventures as Bandanna Day (Canteen Assoc.), Red Nose Day (Sids), Stewart House, Shades for Aids Day, Jeans for Genes Day, operation Christmas Child and locally, to assist with funds for Narrabri Primary School after their fire.

Students within the school who have special requirements are also supported by SRC.
SRC members have represented the school at Government House, Young Leaders Forum (Sydney), Anzac Day Ceremonies, Remembrance Day, Legacy and Red Cross Appeals and played major roles in School Assemblies and Presentation Night.

Narrabri High School places an emphasis on promoting student leadership and has had Student Leaders selected to participate in the Commission for Young People, the Alcohol Summit, the State Constitutional Convention, the National Round Table and the Global Young Leaders Convention.
The effort and commitment of Narrabri High School's SRC members contributes positively to the development of tomorrow's leaders and 'excellence in a caring community'.
