On Thursday 19 September, four of our year 8 girls competed in the Orbispace 'Pitch for the Planet' contest against 29 other teams and ended the day with a top 6 finish. Georgia, Phoenix, Zoe and Aida pitched their company EV-lution's solution to a big issue in the electric vehicle industry: its slow adoption in rural Australia. EV-lution's answer to this problem is to revive the Australian car industry by manufacturing their very own ute design suited to rural environments and partnering with scrap metal companies to recycle existing resources.
EV-lution won their heat, impressing the judges with their answers during question time. The judges (who work across financial, environmental, and tech industries) were amazed by the team's vision and understanding of the rural market.
After completing a second time with their pitch against the other finalists, the students received a keynote address from the Chief Technical Officer at Microsoft, who ended her speech with an Amelia Earhart quote: “Some of us have great runways already built for us. If you have one, take off. But if you don't have one, realize it is your responsibility to grab a shovel and build one for yourself and for those who will follow after you.”
We're very proud of EV-lution, who are Narrabri's first participants of the Orbispace program. They built the runway so that future groups can take flight.
