NHS Careers Immersion to AFF – Cotton Ginning in Action!
On Thursday, June 26th, a group of 23 Year 7 and 33 Year 8 students from Narrabri High School had an incredible opportunity to explore the world of cotton ginning as part of our NHS Careers program.
Students visited Australian Food and Fibre (AFF – Auscott), where they were guided by John Tully, Paul Flewitt, and Mark Noble through a behind-the-scenes tour of large-scale cotton farming and ginning operations.
The experience included:
* A drive through the farm and a stop at the workshop to inspect the impressive farming machinery
* A tour of the cotton gin – from round bales arriving by moon buggies, to being unwrapped and processed
* Watching cotton transformed into lint, baled, sampled, and prepared for shipment
* A close-up look at AFF’s high-tech surveillance and quality assurance systems
It was a day full of discovery, and – as one student put it – “a lot of fun seeing where your socks and underwear come from!”
