At the end of term 1, Alana Kilmartin, the author of Unserious Careers, visited Narrabri High School to deliver an inspirational presentation to our Year 11 Life Ready students.
Alana shared her own unique journey through a variety of occupations in her first few years after leaving school and the valuable lessons she had learned in the process.
Alana’s aims were to provide “cool tips” from her book and to inspire students to expand their career ideas. “Those first five years after school are key for building foundations and I want to help students make the most of them!” Arranged through the Educational Pathways Program, the presentation was highly entertaining and very well-received by our students and their teachers.
From Alanas website - Alana Kilmartin is an Australian author and speaker who proudly grew up on a farm outside a small town no one has ever heard of.
She graduated from Monash University with a double degree in Commerce and Biomedical Science. Clueless about what to do next, Alana moved to New Zealand where she stumbled into high-performance sales and became one of the country's top travel agents. The burnout and quarter-life crisis that followed inspired her to write Unserious Careers.
