Narrabri Show 2024

Narrabri Show

The 2024 year looked a little different for the Narrabri High School Show Team students as they joined their community in competing at the local show, with the experienced students leading the way, we are fortunate to have several new students from Years 7 –10 joining the judging and parading ranks.

In the months since school returned students have been involved during class time, preparing three Angus steers. This continued to some after school workshops with Agriculture teacher Ms Bethany Bray giving up her own time to grow the student’s confidence. NHS students were also tutored by local community members Pip and Scoot Hann, Bruce Evans, James Crocker, Janine McGowen in a cattle workshop and judging tips session.

Throughout the Friday Junior Judging competition, the students were asked to judge grain, produce and sheep. With NHS taking ribbons out in the Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior sections. Congratulations to those who attended the Friday competition, your commitment to the schools RISE values and your growing skills in the Agriculture Industry. Special mention to Year 7 student Jimmy Foster who in his first attempt at Junior Judging took home Most Successful in the Sub-Juniors section.

Saturday was an early and wet start for staff and students, 7am washing, drying and brushing again paid off, with a number of students taking home ribbons in their respective classes. A special mention also to Ruby Michell in Year 7, who in her first time competing took home 1 Place in the Under 13’s Cattle Parading.

Throughout the weekend the students were exposed to industry leaders, community leaders and parents and carers who commented on their skills, commitment and manners. We look forward to the upcoming events in Wee Waa, North West Steer Competition and Dubbo’s Merino Challenge later in the year, all allowing the students to step outside their comfort zone and potential careers in the Agricultural Industry.

A thank you to the staff at NHS, parents and carers involved in the weekend, our students wouldn't be able to commit to this without your support and guidance!
